What is The Language Matrix?
The Language Matrix is a process of manipulating letters within a word to create, within a few steps, a new word.
In a discussion group on AskReddit today I found:
“If I can’t sleep I like to play games in my head to take my focus away from trying to sleep. My favourite one is changing one four letter word to another, one letter at a time. (Also known as Word Ladder)”
Just for now, ignore the fact that you can change any letter to any other letter, can you see the logical progression of ‘word ladders.’ In this example, there are only three single letter changes and hence, only three steps form D-O-G (dog) to C_A_T (cat).
The Lewis Carroll example is a VERTICAL progression, showing each step like the rung of a ladder.
My preference is to show the progression HORIZONTALLY, going from left to right, in the same way that we write.
What is important is to know that The Language Matrix is a step-by-step progression, much like a mathematical proof, where everything is connected by LOGIC.
Instead of using ‘=’ (mathematical equal sign) The Language Matrix connects by using the arrow (→).
Consider applying The Language Matrix twice i.e. Two Steps.
Step 1, for instance could go like this: Because the letters ‘ka’ sound like the word ‘car’ we can summarise our thinking or logic as KA → CAR.
Step 2 could be: By rearranging the letters C-A-R to A-R-C, CAR → ARC
Here’s how we can tell the two step story in one line: KA → CAR → ARC
The original word is”KA”. After two steps the ‘new word’ is “ARC.” Does The Language Matrix as “a process of manipulating letters within a word to create, within a few steps, a new word” make a little more sense now?
Fundamental Premise: Everything is Connected
The fundamental premise from which The Language Matrix stems is: “Everything is connected”
Tom Chi’s TEDxTaipei talk, is ‘Everything is Connected — Here’s How.’ He introduces his talk saying:
“What I’m going to talk to you today is a little bit of what I’ve learned.
It’s the concept that everything is connected. You’ve probably heard this many, many times, in fact. It’s an element of almost every spiritual tradition of humankind throughout all of history.
But whenever I hear people talk and mention this phrase that “we are all connected,” they do so in a way where it’s something they wish that they could believe was true, that it’s something that’s abstract; that it’s esoteric; that it’s a thing that is unprovable, but they just really wish the universe was like that.
And today I’m here to describe that everything really is connected, and not in some abstract, esoteric way, but in a very concrete, direct, understandable way.
And I am going to do that with three different stories: a story of the heart, a story of the breath, and a story of the mind.”
The element of his talk that appeals to me is that he delves deeper into what on the surface would appear to be disparate things, to make connections. The last 5 or so minutes are worth hearing. Enjoy!
Unite in Unity
Remember, ‘→’ or arrow means ‘morphs to’, ‘changes to’ or becomes’
The phrase I sign off on my emails is “Unite in Unity.”
The key is to link the verb ‘unite’ with the noun ‘unity.’
UNITE → uni-te → UNITY
Now that’s not that hard is it? [sound ‘te’ as ‘t’]
I have never thought about this before in the way you are about to see or hear, which is a magic moment for me. It makes sense. It feels right.
UNITE → uni-te → uni-t → UNIT & UNITY → uni-te → uni-t → UNIT
Hence, UNITE in UNITY → Unit in Unit → 1 in 1
When you learnt to count, 1,2,3,… you were counting WHOLE numbers.
Whole can mean UNIT or ONE and whole can mean EVERYTHING or ALL.
I’m loving this.
In this very moment, the phrase given to me years ago during a meditation, “Unite in Unity” is taking on a different flavour, because, ‘unite’ and ‘unity’ both morph to UNIT or ONE (1), and WHOLE can mean EVERYTHING:
UNITE in UNITY → 1 in 1 → WHOLE in WHOLE or EVERYTHING is in EVERYTHING
If ‘Everything is in everything’ then everything must be connected!
Which is another way of saying the fundamental premise of The Language Matrix:
Everything is connected!
